About MSCI

MSCI is a data provider used to run the Indicative ESG score check in Maxsight. It offers standardized ESG data that helps assess a company's sustainability performance across environmental, social, and governance dimensions.

How an Indicative ESG score check works with MSCI

This is the default behaviour for a variant of the Indicative ESG score check with MSCI as the data provider.

To perform the check, Maxsight sends the BvD ID recorded for the company to MSCI. If this BvD ID matches a company within MSCI's coverage universe, MSCI returns indicative ESG scores. The scores are compared against your configured thresholds. The check passes when all scores meet or exceed the specified thresholds.

The results returned by MSCI include:

  • An overall indicative ESG score on a 0.0 to 10.0 scale, where 0.0 represents the weakest performance and 10 the strongest.

  • Sub-scores across the environmental, social, and governance pillars.

  • Sector- and Industry-aligned benchmarks for contextual comparison.
